I'd call it that, but others might disagree. There's a thread some where that had a bit of a debate. The maker is Alcock, Lindley, Bloore.

Does anyone else think that the lid looks a bit small?

Yes, it can be called a "brown betty" teapot.
See THIS thread for more info.
I believe the friendly debate also refers to whether it can be called redware. I'm one that does call it such because it is made from red clay. My understanding is that others have the view that redware is only called such if it is a red clay item that is not glazed.

Looks fine to me. ALB teapots often had recessed lids. I have several. :)

ALB teapots have a unique way of holding the lid in place when the teapot is tipped - a sort of undercut ledge inside that high collar. They also have the steam vent going straight through the the top knob.

Thanks to you and Bluumz -- it just looked a bit odd to me (happens all the time now I've reached senior citizen status! :D )

Do this have any value ? I really love it, so I won't be selling it, but would be fun to know

Not a great value. Functional rather than exemplary.

Agree. My interest is purely sentimental.
The bigger (6-8 cups) plain brown ones could possibly bring around $40 US, but the smaller ones often sell for only $10, if they sell at all. And yours appears to have a condition issue related to glaze loss on the rim of the lid.

EDIT: I'd remove that wiring before it does any further damage to the glaze. It's someone's homemade device to keep from losing the lid, I suppose. It's not original to the teapot.

It's absolutely a Brown Betty, that. We don't really use redware as a term here that much. Not a lot of value but makes excellent tea.

NO TEA BAGS. WORK OF SATAN.
