Featured Iroquois pouches/purses.

Anyone care to try to put a date on these? They look earlier more than later but hoping someone can say something more specific. Will need to get additional photos of the small one.

 

Looks almost identical to mine...Late 19th to early 20th century.

 

This article (just found) provides clues to dating such bags based on historic photographs of women and girls holding the bags. Most of those illustrated are older than I would have thought. The author has written a book on the subject of Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) beadwork, which he refers to at the end of the article -

most, are also larger.........they became much smaller towards the end of the 1800's, when the tourist market flourished.

 

I like the colors and decoration.
