Iron pot. Anyone recognise country of origin?

7inches deep by 7 inches wide. Approx.

looks like a cauldron Harry would have taken to Hogwarts.

 

Kind of looks like a fantasy item to me.

 

I have seen that flower petal decoration around the rim before, but of course I can't remember where.

 

@popsycat is that a faux "replacement bottom" on it?

I looked at Ethiopian designs, failed to find the exact rim design, but did find some classic designs. Below is a pininterest link but perhaps you can spot yours?

I don't think it is. It is hanging up quite high from a beam. I shall have to get some ladders out to climb up to look.

 

Yah I think your photographs don't reflect the way the surface actually looks to you? If you decide to take more pictures, please photograph the interior.

 

It was bought in France last year but where it is bought is not necessarily where it was made. I love it.

 

Looks an ethnic piece to me. We have similarly made ironwork pots here in Spain brought from Morocco. Possibly from a former French colony/protectorate like Morocco or Algeria, Sudan, Ivory Coast etc??
