No idea what this is, having trouble finding anything on it.

I believe it is Maori art from New Zealand. The design is made out of heavy paper or maybe even leather. I can't tell really, it is framed so it is hard to tell. It was sold by a now defunct art gallery in Quebec.

No, not related to Maori art. This is from Fiji, a traditional masi, or tapa cloth. It's made from pounded bark of the paper mulberry tree. While it has been used culturally for generations, most produced today is for sale. This round type is made for the tourist market, and is often framed, as here.

    Agree with Taupou.
Maori art usually has scroll decorations.

We got an old wedding masi/tapa cloth from a dear friend when we got married, he knew how much I love Fiji and went to great lengths to get it. It is very big, and we just don't have the space to display it properly.:(

Yep, shrink it and stick it on a giant clamshell disc, and you've got yourself a kapkap. Better for the turtles.;)

One can never see too many kapkaps.:pompous:
