Has anyone ever seen something like this before?
measures 6 3/4" tall. Wood handle is riveted on.
Not sure of the age but the brass has a nice patina.
Looks like it may have had a stand to sit on at one time?

Supposedly shaken gently by the little altar boy in red and white. (Occasionally he becometh overzealous, and makes a raucous noise to the Lord.)

Though I would love to call this an alter bell I am not seeing one similar. Not that it couldn't be.

That's an awesome thought to add to the listing title.
    Thanks @Aquitaine

Unlike Mr. Bond's Martini: stirred, not shaken.

I think it is meant to be rapidly twisted around the axis of the grip, rather than conventionally shaken, to make its Joyful sound.

And what are those half-hooks? Function...or Form?

@wlwhittier I think it must have had a stand or hanger so the half hooks would make sense.

I could accept the stand or hanger idea...if those hooks were shaped otherwise. I doubt it as they are.
