It looks like a studio pottery oil lamp.

It's a fragrance diffuser, should have a cork and glazed underplate, both seem to go missing most of the time. You fill it with essential oil, the scent seeps out through the unglazed area, can also leave it open for more fragrance - not very old, and frankly, not particularly effective...

Wow that does not sound very effective, but thanks for the insight DragonflyWink.

Someone gave me one a few years back, still have it because it's cute, and was a gift, but not worth adding new oil to it. Others must feel the same, I see them fairly often at thrifts and garage sales...

Hi, I think the term you're looking for is "hand thrown" :)

I don't think this is of that era, and I don't know whether this was intended as a diffuser or oil lamp but, in the hippie/60s era dried flowers were the rage, and very tiny-mouthed vases and pots were perfect for showing just one or two skinny sprigs.

Anyone remember (those other dust-catchers) sweet-potatoes growing out of Mason jars?

    WEED POTS!
    Thank you, DW :)

It didn't seem too practical without the saucer - now it makes sense! Thanks!

    Hi Scout,
Have not planted a real sweet potato in a long time. However three years ago I bought a sweet potato vine. Planted in a large concrete urn. It was beautiful, all the dappled tricolors. Been growing them for years. That fall after the plant died I dug out the container and I found 12 lb sweet potato. I had been growing the plants for years and that was the first one that grew a sweet potato.
