Information on cast iron balance scales? Maker's mark? Origin? Age?

    They are marked KM on the flat platform and again on the side, though in a sideways diamond shape. Can anyone please identify the maker? The other markings are numbers 046 and 71046 on the side.

    From my research, identical ones are from either India or France. Not sure about age.

    And lastly, what is the compartment on the underside for?

    Maybe a maker?

    A Dutch 'keurmerk' on scales is never cast together with the scales. For scales to get a keurmerk they have to be tested, after which they get a seal (or not).
    But with scales like these, the precision and reliability depends on the accuracy of the weights, not on the scales themselves.

    They could be Dutch though, the maximum weight is 10kg, so a European Continental weight.

    The small compartment would be for adding various tiny bits of weight to 'balance' the tables to zero when the scale is at rest without load.
