Info on badge please

    GR stands for George Rex so would have either been George V or George the VI. The backing of the badge looks like a ribbon of a medal.

    Most likely a "sweetheart" badge/pin, given to a soldier's nearest and dearest. It's a nice quality piece but not worth a great deal due to the Royal Engineers being such a large unit; perhaps £10-20.

    I did a search on the patent no. and came across a similar badge to the London Scottish Regiment here (third badge down) :-

    As Rabid Collector mentioned, both badges have a piece of medal ribbon inserted in the back. I don't recognise either as being to any British medal issued since 1914.

    Oh, and like the badge in the link, it's WWI period.
