Featured Imari plate

    Grabbed this today. Nice imari plate. Never understood the significance of the swirls on the back. Are they like a signature of the kiln or artist maybe? It's about 20cm diameter.

    are you talking about the double rings? I seem to recall that Ming Dynasty had double rings but they were usually fake. The decor on the backside look to me like precious objects.

    They are Buddhist symbols, part of the eight treasures of Buddhism.

    Interesting that the "treasures" on the back are stenciled. I'm thinking closer to the turn of the 20th c. but that's just a guess. And for 3 pounds, that's a score!
