I have this drawing. I am hoping someone has seen this style or the artist before. I can only make out possible "F M" at the beginning of the signature. I have tried google with just the drawing and then with just the signature came up with nothing. So any help with info would be amazing.

Frank Mansueto - advertising agency in Vancouver BC. This is a WAG based on a few hits on the internet, but that may be a sketch of a float (or proposed float) for the Tournament of Roses or some other parade. He designed floats.

Done with marker, so probably not a finished work.

It's a commercial illustration, done by hand the old fashioned way for a proposed project based on the Yeomans work by the display house. They would have had permission from the artist before the project was executed as would have been (and is) standard practice. The marker execution is normal for this type of work. It's a finished piece. Tight and signed.

So the agency did specialize in floats. The questions are then -- for what event was this proposed and whether it was executed or not.

It would likely have been one of three concepts presented to the client. I think Expo '86 a possibility for event perhaps, given Pacific dogwood, to represent British Colombia. This type of work was all computer generated just a few years later.

In the end, something similar was used at Expo '86 in the B.C. Pavillion. These are carved welcome figures. Now at the Vancouver airport.

Internet agrees with 1987 date for 'Gunarh and Whale.'
