Featured Identifying a piece of furniture from an old Welsh farmhouse

Hello! I am hoping that someone might be able to help us to solve a mystery and identify a piece of furniture. We bought a farmhouse (from around 1840) in South Wales and it came with the house. Two photos are attached. It is full height. I tried to use google image search, which only suggested plate rack, but the slots are far too big for that. In the photograph which shows a plate, it's a dinner plate slotted in the top (shortest) layer of spindles.. it is swamped even in that layer.

What is "full height"? Measurements would be helpful.

If the slots are big, I'm thinking maybe for a school and platters? Some boarding schools use big platters for service.

 

Those doors look like plywood.I think the bottom is old and the top newer.But I could be wrong.

 

who said it's made to fit only one plate per slot ??

 

What is the diameter of the plate in your picture?

 

It would probably hold the 12" and 14" round chargers/platters that Franciscan made just fine.
