This chair was purchased used in the 1970's in NH. It appears to be oak, and bears the manufacturer's initials "H.U." Where can I look for more information about who made the chair? Or does anyone recognize it? Looking to eventually sell it and want to learn more in order to price fairly.

    nice chair.....
    1950's maybe...could be earlier
the H U .....could be Hudson University.....or some such...but it's no mfg mark....
you could maybe ask $ 75....and come down to $50.....
    but...
    many factors at play here...

Can't tell you whether the mark relates to a maker or is some type of institutional marking as suggested. I don't think it really matters. Evaluate your chair based on form and function, guage your market, and you can determine a selling point. It appears to be a late 19th to early 20th century oak chair. Does look somewhat institutional in form, though the back is a bit more slanted than most such chairs (Could just be a function of the photo?). Nice robust chair.

This somewhat similar pair is listed at retail for $795.00. Keep in mind that a pair is always worth more per piece than a single. However, this seems quite high to me. In my semi-rural Midwest market, I would be lucky to get $50.00 for such a chair. Your market and how selling is everything.
