It doesn't say Picasso, and as you thought, it is not a Picasso. The signature looks like Pictoso?

Do you have a close up photo of what is written on the back of the other painting?
The signature is Hornung ........ 44.

I think it is Danish. On the back it says Parken (park) Fredensborg Juni (june) 1944. Fredensborg is the name of a palace in Denmark, known for it's beautiful gardens:

I can read some Danish, but I can't read what comes before Parken Fredensborg. There are some people on the forum who know Swedish and Norwegian, maybe they can recognize the words. @judy perhaps?
The name is still Hornung and something. I know Hornung to be a surname of German origin. The name also appears in surrounding countries, like Denmark.

I would get the "picasso" looked at by a professional. He has signed his work in many different ways. Look at example 5 on this link (also note that he dates his work in similar fashion):

I'm with Any Jewelry on this one - not only is the signature only superficially similair - the subject matter and style is nothing like what Picasso was doing in 1950 - here's a 1950 work of his:

I certainly agree with you on the point of his work in the 50's, I intentionally chose to ignore the front of the painting ;). That said, Pablo Picasso was probably on the fringes of society to say the least, so for all we know he woke up one morning and thought "today i want to paint some beautiful, simple sailboats..."

I take great caution boxing in great artists. Case in point, most would attribute Banksy to rudimentary graffiti on a wall, however he recently showed depth with his work "The Banality of the Banality of Evil" (he grabbed up a painting at a thrift shop and drew adolf hitler into the scene):

You're probably right, it's probably a slim to none chance that it's authentic. But if it were in my hands, I would shell a few bucks out to an appraiser for "piece of mind."
