    Hi

I am new to the forum and am hoping for help on the identification of an artisan brass choker that I recently purchased. Any advice given would be much appreciated!

The choker is mostly brass with some small copper accents and a small enamelled panel.

There is a signature on the back. I think the first name is Francois. The number 3574 is above the name and also on the main brass choker.

I hope the photos are OK as I had to crop them quite a bit.

Many thanks in advance for any advice given.

    Diana

If you use a little silver polish on the signature, it may clean it up enough to be able to read it better.

Oh forgot - Welcome to the board.

Thank you. Here's another photo of the makers mark after having had a further polish!

Well you can certainly see the letters better. They look backwards in spots.
    @Any Jewelry ideas on language?

The letters look like they are in Latin script, but difficult to read. My guess would be Slovakian or thereabouts, but that is just a guess.
Although Ukrainian uses Cyrillic script, I wonder if @April07 or @Boddah think this could be a related language but written in Latin script?:)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Reminds me of the Armenian alphabet, or something similar. Maybe?

Could be, Armenian generally has more rounded letters. They make gorgeous jewellery though, and have had an important influence on jewellery styles of surrounding countries.

We don't have an Armenian translator yet, but I found this example of Armenian handwriting:

I was basing my comment partly on the printed Armenian alphabet. Apparently there are two of them, an Eastern and a Western version:

As I said, it might be a similar alphabet, not that. Or maybe neither.

Thank you for all your replies. It's obviously not a well known makers mark. I am in the UK and bought the choker at a boot sale and paid 50 pence for it!

I will be selling it as it's not really my style.

Whoever buys it will need a small neck though!

Yup, I'm still thinking Greek, but handwriting.

I don't recall for certain, but it seems we got nowhere. I know I found nothing.

For those who hate looking back and forth:

That's great. You're right the marks do look very similar! It must be just a small independent designer and more a modern make than an old one.

I found a couple of brass chokers on Google that looked to be made the same way but had amethysts on them. They were dated 70s and 80s.

Thanks for that, Jivvy. I quickly tired of looking back and forth!

And, you have a great memory, @Jivvy -- maybe in this case it's because you looked so carefully for a long time, but I've noticed that in the past.

Oh, and the metal "blob" decorations on the pie server in the other thread remind me of the ones on this piece of jewelry.
