    Can anyone identify this nouveau or nouveau inspired desk? maybe some Biedermeier going on here too...I don't know.[​IMG]

    Certainly not art nouveau which is an ornamental style "...characterized by its use of a long, sinuous, organic line..." to quote Encyclopedia Britannica. This is an example.

    Oh the lovely,lovely thing ! Its hard to really get a good look from the pic,but I thought Aesthetic ,1870 maybe. Then I thought I see a hint of Biedermeier .It looks like some nice inlay work as well.

    A lot going on with this one but not art nouveau. More arts and crafts meets Biedermeier.

    typical Nancy style with whiplash adornments - or as the French call it - noodle style. the Viennese -, Darmstadt- and other styles are much more straight in their lines.
    this one here got a good shot of Empire in it with those ebonized colons.

    the combination of the different - rather clear-colored - woods could even be Scandinavian.
