I picked this up today at my local thrift shop. I believe it is pewter. Tried looking for a makers mark but couldnt find nothing. I was wondering if anyone could help me ID this candle holder? Any info would be great thanks!

Pewter doesn't usually turn that dark a color, even after many years. And without any markings, it's tough to say what material it might be, much less who made it. Styling certainly is in Art Nouveau style, though.

I'll try searching under spelter. So you think maybe a vase than a candle holder?

I think so, for a single rose for instance, or a sprig of something.

Could it just be base metal from heavily worn silverplate?

has more to do where it was stored and what were the "ingredients" of the alloy. the rough surface is typical for pewter and the surface may even show flaking when kept in sour environment.

If you are doing a search for decorative items made of spelter, include the word regule. It is the french word for it. It will throw up a lot more examples.
