Featured ID French Victorian maker's mark, EG in lozenge, silver earrings?

Hi,
Who was E G? These old silver earrings have a maker's mark in a diamond shaped lozenge.. the initials E G on either side of a symbol. Any clues as to the maker, or the symbol?

I have looked through the online resources..www.925-1000.com and silvercollection.it - but can't find any French maker with the initials EG.

Guessing it's French because of the diamond lozenge shape. Appears to be carved Jet - victorian mourning jewelry

I find that these French black dormeuses are usually mounted with onyx glass or 'French jet', both glass.
