I went with my instincts on these serving utensils

    Greetings everyone!

I got a chance to go hunt some stores today, and I came across these large serving utensils at a store I visit infrequently. I probably spent 5 minutes scanning them with my eyes and hands and mulling over the purchase. I finally went with my instincts on this one, and here's the indicator that pushed me over the edge to buy them: I figured if these were actual silver, the handles would be cement weighted. I noticed that on one of the utensils, the end of the handle had a bit of damage, and I could tell it was cement filled with thinly wrapped metal (which I hoped was silver). When I was in the store, I couldn't make out any discernible marks, but I could see a few divots in the typical location where marks would be.

The first few photos are pre-polishing; after cleaning one of the utensils I started to get a clearer view of the marks. It may be hard to tell from the photos, but both utensils are gold/silver tone (gold wash?) and I have no clue where to begin with country of origin. Has anyone seen the marks at the bottom before? Total was $4 so worth the gamble for me anyways:

That's a boar's head. If I'm seeing it right, those are French.

Thank you evelyb30!!! I would have never ever guessed that at all but now I see it. Do you think this might be the second mark given the “French connection”?

French silver flatware wasn't marked with the boar's head, but with the Minerve:)
Boar's head hallmark was for jewelry and little silver pieces as boxes, scent bottles and such.
I don't recognize the mark :cyclops: on these pretty forks:)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

And the chance to puzzle out a mystery makes the price worth it, too, IMO. :)
