Featured I took a punt and bought this, what do members think?

Bad photos, poor description, the only info I can glean from the listing is the size, 15" x 9.5" x 4"

 

the box is nice , and seems to be your jam !!

but something is going on with the metal bands that's strange..
maybe......cleaned on the base with a harsh chemical at one time...which disturbed the wood ????

 

I don't know why the photos won't go full image? Yes I did think this was Nagina carving but the crispness of the carving on the top seems not to be there. Also the metal bands aren't right and the pattern on the top is one I haven't seen.

 

I don't think I have ever seen them with metal bands anyway.
But I am sure the marks on the wood can be treated.

I was trying to see if it was pressed rather than carved, but the photos are very small. It is probably carved though.

I'm sure that with your skills you can solve any issues it might have.

 

cuz at 6 kb.....they're just that small.....

 

I thought pressed at first too.......but to my eye it looks carved...and rubbed down over time.....

large pics will clear that up..

can u speak to the lock ?
the hole looks pretty buggered from use...imo

 

I think the lock is missing and the hinges also look to have problems. I didn't pay a lot for it but either it's very dirty or someone has taken sandpaper to the top?

or something heavy sat on it for a lot time in storage...

 

I can't believe someone would try and sand it off so I'm going with dirty until it's in my hand

 

How old do you think it is?

 

I was wondering if it is considerably older than the 'usual' Nagina boxes, and the metal bands were a feature of those older boxes.
The metal doesn't look very old though, neither do the screws.
It is intriguing.

 

Yes I was thinking that or at least the box and carving is older, it does look a lot older than the Nagina boxes I have, it may have just had a hard life?

 

The carving on the sides still look crisp but the top looks worn, maybe someone sat on it for years?

 

There is what looks like a slot in the lid just over the keyhole. Looks like someone tried to open it with a chisel. I'm sure you'll repair that though. This is going to be a nice and rewarding project.
