I need help with an organization's name

    I figured out that this group was probably Baptist. I can't figure out what the initials CE or EC stand for. Nor can I find any references to Providence Union.
    From the photo on the front of the card, it looks like they took their little boat out to the ships in the harbor to recruit the sailors.

    The card is heavy card stock and measures 4 1/4" wide by 3" tall. Thanks for any help.

    'Providence Union Ecumenical College' ? Just a guess. 'CE','EC'-Ecclesiastical,Educational,Congregation,Concave-you get it,the list goes on.

    Do you have a sense of where this came from? Boston? New York?

    Providence Rhode Island?

    Just asking the same thing. Can't find both streets in NYC nor in Providence, RI. Has to be a port (obviously.)

    There is a Bertha Vassaw in Providence in the early 1900s

    Bertha E. Vassaw = Rhode Island (which, of course, makes sense with Providence.) Google Books mention in 1908 as Baptist, 1912 as bookkeeper.

    I found the streets in Providence. I found F. A. Sherive, Chairman of the Sailor Committee, in one one of the Baptist Churches in Providence.

    I'm sorry I didn't share that information. :oops:

    I also found out there is a group of Baptists called Union Baptists so maybe that figures into the Union thing.

    Ok - so I should probably give up the Baptist idea.
    F. A. Sherive could be Baptist and the Temperance Union could be another of his interests.

    I suspect that it was clear in the day that "Providence Union" meant "Providence Temperance Union."

    Yes - probably.

    Thank you for your help. I would have been hung up on the Union Baptists for a long time, especially since F.A. Sherive was Baptist.
