I'm trying to list this Bulova Moonphase key wound chiming clock. It's marked Germany on the case, West Germany on the movement.
It seems everyone and their brother made/makes a clock that looks like this - I'm figuring I can get around $100 for it.
My problem - I'm so woefully ignorant about clocks I don't even know how to describe it in the simplest of terms. For example, is it an 8 day clock? How the heck do I know? What does Moon Phase even mean? Beats me! How old is it? How can I tell? From what I've found, the stamps West Germany and Germany on it really don't mean anything when it comes to clocks. I don't know enough to search for the pertinent information. Does the number 130-020 mean anything? Other clocks by other makers have the same number. What does it all mean? Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Help! (please :shy::arghh::D)

The moon phase dial shows the phases of the moon if set properly. This was a feature of 18th C clockes when knowing the state of the moon meant you could go somewhere at night with the aid of the great sky lantern. Anybody who has been out in the country walking on a moonless, overcast night will appreciate just how really dark it can be.It would be an 8 day clock.
Typical 18th C style clock from about 1970. No horological interest, it is strictly a decor item.
It has what is called a floating balance instead of a pendulum. Similar clocks would have been branded by many makers.
Manufacturing standards were lower than pre-war clocks, repairers dread these as they are a PITA to repair due to worn pivots.

    Thanks SBSVC!
I don't think we're allowed to include links in our listings anymore, are we?

Nope, you're probably right that it's not allowed... But you could send it along with the clock!

p.s. Are you planing any trips my way anytime soon???

That's a good idea, to include it with the clock.

    I don't have any trips planned, but that doesn't mean I can't!

So I sold the clock today. The seller is very concerned that it be packed properly for shipping. She said she'd pay extra to have it packed and shipped by UPS. I reassured her that that wouldn't be necessary.

So how do I pack it so that it doesn't move at all during shipping?:D:eek:

Wrap it in bubble and surround it with Styrofoam peanuts. The bubble wrap will protect it and the peanuts allow for any give during shipping.

Should I put anything inside the clock?

Just try and ensure it is not ticking in transit. :)
Some lightly scrunched tissue in contact with the balance wheel should ensure this. I'd also put something between the hammers and gongs.
