I found a bolt of solid gold

Do anyone know anything about a 'bolt' made out of solid gold? What was it used in? When did anyone use bolts made out of gold (time period)?

Looks like a mushroom, although not a 'golden mushroom' (enoki mushroom).

 

As AJ has said, has it been tested? Because to me at least, it doesn't look very gold like I am afraid.

Tested it at a jewlery store, they said it was pure gold they asked if i was willing to sell it to them, but i am waaay to curious.. I want to knpw more about it since i have never seen anything like it

It is quite a rough casting - it does not look like a finished part of anything. A bolt, at least, would have threads which I do not see. Is the first photo taken with a flash, and the second without? "Pure gold" should not show any type of dark corrosion, as appears in the second photo.

I would expect that's a left over from casting, like a sprue or expansion space. They are usually remelted but this one escaped.

I got it tested last week, they tok a sample and did some things with acid? I think..did aome light stuff, biting idk .. the verdict was it's made out if gold, i called the jewelry store and asked about the black color on it, he said that its beacuse ppl have been touching it and its dirty, and beacuse it has probably been in some metal box or been surrounded by something thats not gold and therefore have some metal residue on it that has oxidated.. He said that i could easily clean it but if i want to sell it to a museum or something like that i should leave it as it is.
It was found by my mother melted inside a rock in a river in north Norway. I was around 6-7 years old when we found it (26 years ago).

Well, that information opens up whole new avenues for exploration.

Do you by any chance still have the stone? One possibility is that it was a mold for casting some type of rough ingot. Your object is not the usual shape for a Viking gold ingot, but I found one example (found in the UK) that shows a wedge shape similar to the end of your piece.

A large blob of gold like yours makes more sense in a much older context than we were probably thinking of.

 

There is the possibility that an analysis of trace elements in the gold might identify the original source of the metal, which may have been coinage from somewhere else. (But if the melt was a mixture of coins from different places, it might not work.)

Others may have thought this but have not mentioned. The shape is identical to a champagne cork.
