I am an archaeologist and artifacts dealer

Discussion in 'Introductions' started by AlienArtifactZ, Oct 27, 2017.

  1. I use the terms archaeologist and artifacts dealer...very loosely...ahem anyway

I come from a background in study of Germanic and Aztec tribes. I have a deep thirst for the knowledge of history and the times that have passed. I study religions as well as civilization and peoples of the ancient times.

I find myself seeking out unique items of all sorts, and returning them to their proper place in the world after identifying and finding the history. I began this adventure a year ago and am on the hunt for my next treasure. I am always buying and selling and looking for items and adventure. In the meantime I may be a familiar name on these boards as I plan to be active.

    Thank you.

Welcome to the forum Alien (a name you will have to get used to, since Judy coined it ;)). Looking forward to more of your treasure, and your input.

Welcome! I am an avocational archaeologist. ("Archaeologist" and "artifacts dealer" are not viewed as simpatico terms in my neck of the woods). It's a fine line to walk:)

:vulcan::android::blackalien::blackalien::blackalien::astronaut::astronaut::astronaut: Welcome Alien; you're going to fit right in with this bunch! I'm a generalist junk junkie myself with a specialty in hoarding old jewelry. It's supposed to be SELLING old jewelry, but... I call my stock the dragon's hoard for a reason.

Do you grok? Your interests & mine will probably cross paths, as many cameos/intaglios, even when not actually from antiquity, are about ancient history & civilizations. Here's a Roman banded glass intaglio of one of the Dioscourides:

    I was intrigued by:
Do you actually repatriate things? Or are you talking about reconnecting items to a deeper body of knowledge? :writer::turtle:

    I was wondering about that.

  16. Both. For instance. I came across a balinese doll made of old chinese coins...ive had it for awhile and i am going to make a post on it soon. my goal is to reunite it with where it belongs like its religious temple of origin or a family who would use it in a traditional way or whatever the case is. Ok maybe not on the same level as ancient intaglios that are put back together but hey gotta start somewhere. lol

Im not sure what grok is...so I just looked it up and I suppose certain definitions of that could apply to me.

And thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I have several of those. Most of them represent Dewi Sri, the Javanese/Balinese Rice Goddess. The ones representing other Gods are quite rare.
Chinese cash coins were used a lot in Indonesia for small change. The Indonesian word for cash coins is kepeng.
Most of the kepeng statuettes were made for tourists. It is folk art. Traditionally they were temporary things, made for harvest celebrations. After the celebration they would lose their purpose. For harvest festivals they would always make new, fresh figurines, usually of pandan leaves. Old ones wouldn't do. The general name for harvest figurines is Cili.
Just keep it and enjoy it. Balinese people wouldn't know what to do if someone suddenly presented them with a Balinese souvenir. They would be very polite about it, but feel awkward.
But I'm looking forward to your post, love to see it, I can probably put a rough date on it. Some old Balinese souvenirs can be valuable.

Any self respecting alien should read Robert Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land. The question is something the protagonist asks of new people he meets.
