Before.....and if I have, I heartily apologize!!! This was my parents, at the Cape, over their huge fireplace. It had a beautiful brass engraved heart in the center which I’m still waiting to receive a picture of from my SiL (of course my oldest bro copped it...grrr)....DIMENSIONS: 67” LOA, Height 20” Overall, BUT just 14” in the center area where the heart would be....steel bracket firmly attached to hold it to whatever one would want to attach it to! THE shed it’s been in is going so DH can get a NEW and somewhat bigger shed so he can store his Miata in for the winter.....which makes me SO HAPPY as we can get the CRAPPE OUT of the shed!!!! HAPPY DANCE here!!!! Oh yeah....the piece of Art!!! It’s NOT THIN copper either.....heavy!!!! It got a little banged up in the shed (grrrrr*#!!(&*), but if I’m correct, heating it a little will make it malleable enough to re-shape where needed??? Getting the one pic was like pulling HEN’S teeth.......THANKS as usual for any help....if worst comes to worst.....any value in the copper as scrap????
This must have been magnificent with the heart in the center, 67 inches, wow. So your brother somehow removed the heart? Was it engraved with your parent's names? If it had your parent's names, the heart wouldn't have been too much interest to someone unrelated I'm thinking. However the piece as it stands definitely has more value above copper melt. Was this a custom made piece?
Ah, started thinking I did see this before. https://www.antiquers.com/threads/c...one-on-cape-cod-80s-or-90s.27139/#post-361909
No, @Lucille.b, I think it's a biblical quote Mom liked, still waiting for the photo from Sil..........will post when I get it!! And yes, it was custom made on Cape Cod....Mom was always into doing things like that.....I think the same guy did the heart......
OMG!!!! I can NEVER find things when I go looking to see if I actually did post it before!!!! AWESOME MEMORY!!!!!! AND thank you!!!!
I started to reply & don't know what happened unless I didn't hit 'reply' ...yes, it was/is a custom made piece, and no it did not have their names in it.....I believe it was a biblical passage Mom was fond of.....but will post if I ever get the photo!!
Seeing the close-up photos of the piece in the previous post, this is worth way more than meltdown. From the things you've posted over the years, your mother had fantastic taste. To my mind, in a perfect world the original plaque would be reunited to this, but if there is absolutely no chance of that happening, I think this would have decent resale value as a piece of handmade art. Someone could maybe even contact the original artist and have him make a new plaque custom to what they want. This piece had to be fairly expensive when new.
