8" high or so, unsigned, 3 sided, etched on all sides, redware pottery. Vase or vessel, small opening on top.

    Hungarian, I think.

Seems to be a poem or saying on the side, starts with, "Az a nehez mevini (?) ...??? again "Az a nehez (then something else, not sure of the letters) ends with "Divat".

According to Google translate "Az a nehez in Hungarian means "The brunt of" and "Divat!" (last word) means "fashion".

Also has what I first thought was a date, but looks like "A997" and possibly three letters, "HMI" also the word or name: Barruga, Barriga?

Any one ever seen similar? Wondered whether worth listing. Thanks.

Here's what I think I see & what IM Translator gives me in return:

az a nehez menui that's the wrong way,
ma siadui but [so?] be it,
az a nehez hinui that's the way it hurts

Either I'm not transcribing the next word correctly or IMT can't translate. Can't see final word. Suspect there's a proper name here & that it's a quotation.

LOL. Just put it in as a single phrase, & now IMT comes back with:

It's a bad thing to do, but it's a good thing.

    Probably closer to correct.

Bronwen, you did better than I did. My first attempt went to a website, I had it translate and it was a page on Sleep Apnea.

My first thought was that it was going to be these well known words:

Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul,
Ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul.

Use the term -butella...just that one word.
You will find more like yours. I accidentally found it, don’t know what it means.

Maybe but they all have sayings on them with just that one word. Unless google is calculating my prior searches. Do you get the bottles with sayings?

Mostly yes - but a few without inscriptions, mixed in with a few pictures of nutella - which might be from my previous searches ...heeehee.

I had to specify 'butella flask' or Google was absolutely convinced I really meant Nutella, even though have only looked at it in the supermarket, not on line.

Seems literally to mean bottles, but these pottery ones more specifically. 'Bokaly' appears to be a related term, for the pitchers/ewers. See this Pinterest board on Botella & Bokaly.

Some of the ones I see, also have the A and number. Maybe it’s the fluid capacity?

Good work, everyone. Woke up and had all this great info waiting for me. :)

On to something with "Butella". Good find HT. Thank you Aaron for the great link, and Bronwen for the help, too.

Google tried to lure me with sweets as well!

Did you mean: hungarian pottery nutella antique

Okay, back to the search. So far the first one that is 3 sided I found was on Pinterest, but linked to a museum (photo below) stating date of 1884. And no smell to mine --zilch. Good suggestion, though. Still searching to see if this is a copy of something, older, or what. So far the only 3 sided one I found was that one linked to some Hungarian museum. Interesting to see if I can pin this down. Great help, everyone. Thank you.

That is the closest I've found. Thanks, H.

What do you make of this site? Do you think all new items or is it some kind of mix of old and new? I definitely see one thing with the date 2006 -- so at a minimum some are new.

I really don’t know what to make of it, as I can’t understand what it says. Maybe you can pick out some descriptive words from descriptions, and see if that opens any doors.
Also maybe search selling sites for butella, maybe.
