Picked up a bag of military buttons. Most are Waterbury but I have a few of these. I googled but don't find anything.

    I'm not either.
Maybe they didn't do much and have fallen off the plant.

Probably bought up by another. Their buttons look good so...maybe.

Would it be likely that tailor providing bespoke officer's uniforms (in, say, Hawaii?) would have a local source for the buttons? Is that even possible? Just asking, having no experience with such things.

They would have to have the die to stamp them out and the crimper and variation probably wouldn't have been tolerated.

It looks like a 1940's U.S. Navy officer's button, but the "eagle" is facing the wrong direction.

Did they not vary as in peace vs war eagles?

Are buttons like these collectible? Are they still worn? Where do uniform suppliers for government issue uniforms get their buttons? Maybe they're just knock-offs. Who's going to look at the maker? Maybe you've uncovered a procurement scandal. Maybe they're just for civilians who are military minded.

I should think that unless 'old' and/or highly unusual, there are many millions of them and I can't imagine that it makes any difference who made them.....unless Tiffany did. :)
I know I have some loose ones and it's likely the same ones are on my uniforms still.
This isn't to say that this couldn't bee a costume button of some type though.

USN officer buttons with left-facing eagle were used 1858-1941, then the eagle was ordered to face right and never looked back since then.

On this bag of buttons the eagle head is facing left. So can I assume the date for these are pre 1941? I have big and small buttons and they are not tarnished, still shiny. I can try to get a picture of them today.

Spring, I just came across the following page. The 2nd posting seems to be contradicting himself. In the 1st line or 2 he is saying 1852-1941 eagle facing left and 1941 eagle facing right. This is followed with his explaining the pic he posted of 4 buttons. He says "those on the left are Civil War-era, those on the right are from a WWII US Navy uniform." The buttons on the left have the eagles facing **right** and the buttons on the right have the eagles facing **left**. I suspect he mixed up his right and left in the pic description or am I missing something??

Kraft, I haven't read all this page. It may have a lead on the manufacturer of your button???
