    Hi All,

I’ve got this howard Hodgkin poster but I can’t seem to find another one anywhere online.

Maybe it wasn’t used as the exhibition poster in the end?

I can find the painting online but can’t find the poster. Does anyone recognise?

The text on the poster says “this exhibition was organised by the modern art museum of Fort Worth, Fort Worth, Texas. Howard Hodgkin snapshot, 1984-93, oil on wood, private collection, copyright the artist. Designed by Herman Lelie. Published by the Hayward gallery, sbc, London 1996.”

    Thanks in advance,

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

It seems, then, that the exhibition started in Fort Worth, Texas, USA and then traveled to London, UK. Perhaps finding more information on the exhibition will turn up more copies of the poster? I'm assuming that the exhibition was in 1996.

Surprised knowing the name of the painting is 'After Morandi' does not help. Poster may have been one sold as souvenir rather than being the one used to promote the exhibition, but you'd think there would be others out there.

Thanks guys. The painting is called snapshot.. he has quite a few that look similar. I contacted the person who designed the poster and they said this:

    “Dear Samuel

I seem to remember it was more like a souvenir poster that Howard was very keen on.
The poster was Howard’s idee and we designed and produced it.

    Hope this answers you question.

    Best wishes”

Interesting.. never heard of a souvenir poster.. has anyone else.

Wow. Nice work Bronwen. I didn’t see that..

So what does that mean exactly? You’d still think there’d be more out there but they are more limited? Is there a market for such things.

What the message said. When the Met mounts a special exhibition, they also set up a little temporary gift shop with related merch, from postcards with repros of the art to books on the life of the artist. Apparently this was made for that purpose.

You would. Maybe it wasn't a big seller. As ephemera, maybe not that many have survived. Who knows?

Without being able to find any others that are being or have been sold, it's hard to say. However, the fact that they are beyond scarce, coupled with the info you got that he personally asked for this one to be made, could make it very desirable, if there are fans of the artist out there.

There is no way, with the lack of information, to know what a reasonable flat price would be. The auction format allows an item to find its current market price, which may turn out to be disappointing. You could set a price & entertain offers & see what comes in. I don't know what options are available to you.
