I just got one of the more sought after Johnathan Adler vases from a thrift store. It is one of the matte white Bespoke Porcelain vases. It has dirty fingerprints all over it. My question is, what is the best way to clean it without damaging it?

For a porcelain vase, a careful hand wash should not be a problem. Porcelain is not very porous. You might try a pencil eraser if the marks persist.

Moreotherstuff I am not sure this would actually be considered porcelain. Are you familiar with this vases? Although it is called Bespoke Porcelain it looks much more like pottery. The texture is a lot like jasperware with a grainy texture

    Hi,
I would spray it with the bathroom cleaner "Foamy bubbles" or such, let it sit for a moment or two and then wash with warm water.

Greg do you know this pottery? I want to be careful because even though it is newer it is a pretty valuable vase

    Hi,
I am a nut. I clean all my Wedgwood jasperware in the dish washer at least once a year. Some thing new and really dirty in the dishwasher several times. I do not use any lemon scented washer powder nor do I use the dry cycle. I learned about it from some famous Wedgwood collectors. I was horrified the first time I heard them saving they always tossed the jasperware in the dish washer. I am a believer now. Of course the oldest piece I put in the washer was 1938. The older stuff, I still do by hand.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a much more humble white porcelain vase (VAAASE, not VAHHHSE) that was finger-printy and dingy... a pencil eraser totally cleaned it!!!!! Thank you, MOS!!!!!!

    Hi Brywil,
It is up to you. I would do it just to remove the finger marks and other grime. I am old fashioned and believe ceramics need cleaning. The only stuff I do not touch is over painted but underpainted I clean it. Have not lost anything yet except for breakage. It is how comfortable you feel about it.

I've never used an eraser on ceramics, but for paper items I use gum erasers and kneaded erasers rather than traditional pencil erasers or other rubber-type ones.

Both gum and kneaded erasers are gentler and the kneaded ones do a great job of picking up surface stuff.

Jonathan Adler site says it's bisque porcelain.

I have this KPM bisque porcelain vase. Picks up dirt and marks like crazy. I scrubbed this with warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush.

As long as there aren't delicate spindly bits to worry about, you should be fine.

Yup, toothbrush and sopay water. If that doesn't do it, Magic Eraser.

I agree on the dishwasher thing: people forget that old pots and baked earth were made in the days when caustic soda and lye plus ashes were used as cleaners!
