How old is this wood mirror

The backing board doesn’t looks that old. 1910? But the rest of the mirror frame is wood craving and glit gold, old aged wood, antique thick hand cut mirror. Maybe the backing board is a latter replacement?

 

The ornate design is not carved but created with gesso upon wood.

This is virtually identical (but a bit smaller) to a family piece that I know dates to 1900. I do think the backer board is a replacement.

 

May have started out as a picture frame rather than a mirror. If you ever find gessoed frames with much damage to the gesso, You can remove the gesso and usually you will find a wonderful pine frame under neath. Most of my mirrors started out as gessoed frames.

 

Yes, very likely a picture frame to start with.
