Do you think I should get it dip stripped?

In the end it comes down to what you want to accomplish with it. Are you keeping it? Trying to sell for a profit? Restoring it won't come cheap. Considering how people seem to love to paint old furniture these days, I'd bet someone would love it the way it is.

Normally I hate when people slap paint on nice, old pieces. . .but in this case I rather like the end result.

For once, I like what's been done to it.

The gold doesn't not suit it. And the cane has been sprayed so might better be one of those live with situations.

Are we positive the gold is not original to the piece? When I google "gilt wood marble top plant stand" I see others like this one.

Also the paint on Gatoblanconz's looks a bit more thought out than just spray paint. Has sort of that wood grain look-- not sure what to call it.

Could it be a vintage (not antique) piece possibly?

I think you've a good point there. Gilded with faux veins.

I think it's the same date as your settee, maybe 1920s.
I would not encourage you to alter the gold on this stand.

It wants to be older, and the edge on the marble top is beveled, but early 20s is probably right. They did painted wood back then too and the gold is either original or it's been there at least 50 years. I'm in the leave it be camp.

Interestingly the paint on the palm stand is kind of tacky to touch.
I'm wondering if someone did a touch up before they sold it to me
The paint on the settee is completely hard.

Anyway I quite like it the way it is it's just for me to have I'm quite happy with the piece.
For me it has a semi-sprayed look but it doesn't look quite like the pieces that people sell on Facebook marketplace where they have got a can of gold spray paint and the result is a completely single tone. Mine is not that bad.

On the other hand it looks much more "painted" than the settee. The settee seems to have layers or tones of paint and different colours ie has more depth and shadowing. the settee is not such a single tone.
