I have a few real photo postcards.
Some are a little off set, too small for the postcard and I'll have 2 or so of them...

    But were any mass produced?
How can you tell if it's a mass produced vs someones personal?

Subject matter is one consideration. Why don't you post photographs?

They are still packed in storage from our move. I just bought one off Etsy of a cowboy on a bucking horse. Its from the late 1920s I would guess.
Ill have to take a picture of it tomorrow if I get a chance.

Im just wondering if it was common for people to walk into a studio and have one or two printed off, a dozen...
If a photographer took one he liked hed print off 1000s...?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Yes, some RPPCs were mass produced in large quantities. Some others were perhaps produced in multiple copies, but only for one person or family. And some were unique.

The mass produced ones are often marked with a logo or publisher's name.

They are a photographic print on photo paper from a film negative. There is no limit to how many can be made from the negative. I have often found family ones where they had multiple copies made.

I can't tell for sure about the horse, but the background appears to be painted. I have a feeling the horse was alive, but it's just a feeling. No proof.

Taxidermy along time ago was usually less than stellar.

The veins in this horse is what raises a red flag for me. It looks as though you can even see it under the girth.... ?

Good point-- that is strange around the girth of the saddle.

That one is definitely a commercially printed card. Those often had beautiful woman and were tinted all over or in just some areas. I'm not surprised that that horse was not a live one.
