How is Rookwood actually pronounced?

    Is it Rook like a babbling brook or Rook like a crowing rooster?

    I forgot about accents.
    Roof as in ooh lala or roof as in hoof
    Ah! Hoof is another.
    Boo! As in a ghostly boo!

    Rookwood was named after the estate where Maria Longworth Nichols Storer lived. It, in turn, was named after the crows that roosted on the property. Consequently, however you pronounce rook the bird would be how you pronounce the first part of Rookwood. For me, rhymes with hook would be the correct way. Have never heard the term rook associated with a crowing rooster. Always just a crow.

    Here in the UK we would pronounce it Ruckwood.
