How do I tell a antique oriental vase jar from a new one made to look old?

These 2 oriental vases came into a thrift store today from the same house that has donated a lot of antiques and high end items.
How can I tell a real antique porcelain vase from a new one or a copy - there are no marks on bottom of either.
    Thank you
PS - photos taken with phone - I apologize if not sharp

The second one was a lamp, wasn't it?

I would go with the lamp theory. Both look ok for late 19th, early 20th c in my opinion. But the first one is heavily cut down and the second one is a jar missing it's lid. Even such simple vases are imitated and sometimes it is difficult to tell the if a piece is old or not, but these are old.

Thank you - are they worth $125 (close to with tax) each?

Hmm, I would spend that money on something else.

That would only be likely for a planter, not a vase.

I would not buy these for this price, each.

Unfortunately, there is no easy answer, there are no quick tells. Years of study, observation and handling oriental pottery is the way .

Maybe it's erasable? It looks like Sharpie, but maybe I'm wrong...

It is a Sharpe & usually comes off unless it's something really porous - it's how they mark their prices
