I guess more on the amateur side? The signature looks like Hamilton?

I think not half bad. The execution of the horse and the background is pretty good. There are tons of Hamiltons out there so pinning this down will be next to impossible. I think this has a bit of age to it but is probably not as old as the frame.

I think this was done by an amateur Hamilton. There isn't enough "leg room" left at the bottom for the horse's feet to stand comfortably on the canvas. The foreshortening is off, the overall effect is flat, yet the subject matter was painted as a "realistic" painting. I believe this was painted from a photograph, I can pretty much see where the original sketch was penciled in prior to painting. It is very "muddy" and lacking in quality, it does not portray a pretty picture nor is it "make a statement" type of art, jmho sorry to say it doesn't matter who Hamilton.

Sorry to say, I thought it was a paint by numbers job when I looked at the horse. I can't paint horses myself, but can vouch for the fact that this is not professional.

I thought paint by numbers too. Also, like anti said, the legs are too short for the body and the head is too big to be a pony.

The poor guy has his tail chopped off too :(

kardinal...I hope you don't take this all to heart. Sometimes folks are sensitive to the critiques.

Not at all. I am not a big fan of the painting either. It came from an auction lot. I usually bid for certain items from the lots but when there are extra pieces I either leave them at the house or sometimes pick them up. There were cases that I will get nice items from the lots that I did not know were there.

Johnny, you USED TO BE FAMOUS for buying "bad art" but you've come a long way since then!

A good cleaning will not change the facts here.
