During lockdown, people were filling our local bus stops with books to discard, as charity shops etc were closed Managed to find quite a few interesting ones This one is from 1913, and very highly annotated Every page is full of added information, expertise, and spelling corectians () I was gonna sell as just annotated but thought might be worth trying to find out who did it all There is a clue on the last pic, my father..... I can't seem to find anything, hopefully someone else might be able to help Would someone Do this for their own reference, or for something else ? Any thoughts appreciated
Only that his surname must be Johnston as well, so maybe if there was another writer in this field called johnston it could be him Long shot I know
Finally found the reference amongst the (faint) pencilled text. The book wasn't found in Essex, was it? Debora
Hi deb No devon, I found some connections to writings of a H w Johnston around the same time and subject matter But nothing concrete
I just think Mr. Johnston loved this fishing book and while he was sitting out waiting for a nibble, he "improved" it! Yes, I would simply state, "annotated," and sell it, if that's not your father's handwriting.
Wouldn't surprise me. But no other clues in book? Notes appear to be written by someone quite knowledgable about ichthyology. Debora
I think it's probably this guy https://books.google.co.uk/books?id...CEAE#v=onepage&q=H W johnston fishing&f=false https://books.google.co.uk/books?id...DEAE#v=onepage&q=H W johnston fishing&f=false Think I've finally found the 12th member of my dream dinner party list
