Hi All, New to Here, Found my “Tribe” lol

Hi All,
Just to say hello & that I’m excited to be here. I say I’ve “found my Tribe” because it is clear that you all share the same kind of passions for old stuff that I do. A place where a whole group enthusiastically discusses paper fiber direction (or cellulose contents in early Bakelite or 4-track vs 8-track cassettes or 60s chalkware casting mold makers or or or .... yes! )

I personally collect 20th century American souvenir plates, though I also love anything glass or pottery or china with advertising on it! For “work” (estate sales) I’m trying to have just enough knowledge about a wide range of “stuff” (again, mainly 20th cent.) to “know what I’m looking at” most of the time. And, unexpectedly, find it great fun to try to follow the “newest” (most recent, ie, up to 1990s now, GULP!) collectibles or “desirables” if you will.

So, my QUESTION & CHALLENGE to all the Old Hands here, (if you’ve actually read this far!): How do you stay abreast of the “new” and emerging markets & trends? Where do you look for your info? Or do you even bother with stuff “that new”?! Would LOVE to hear your thought! Thanks for sharing! xo

I have! No answer though, maybe the others do. My niche interests have been no more or less niche over the last years than they have been for decades.

 

Heh! What are your interest? I mean, besides (I’m guessing here ... jewelry?!) Any specific jewelry types? I have a lot of costume jewelry from my grandmas but none of it seems particularly uniqor “valuable” (other than sentimental of course!)

Welcome ! Ive neevr had a "direction' I just buy what I like . That could be a victorian inkwell or a MCM vase.

 

Mostly ethnic/regional jewellery, which has had a more or less stable following for over a century.

I stopped having so many collection interests, it was exhausting!

 

I know! I can't keep up with mine either.

 

I forgot to say, post it anyway. It is a subject some members know a lot about, and you never know, you could have some hidden gems.

Greetings! I've mostly dealt in jewelry over the years (medical limits among other things), but tend to snag whatever makes my nose twitch. That's included a Persian Empire arrowhead (a friend's Christmas present a few year ago - got it for free!) to the 1980s cassette player I came home with this afternoon.

I watch a few "younger" Youtubers who thrift shop, hit fleas, buy/resell glass etc and have learned a few oddments. Mostly odd.
