Hi everyone, my brother recently sold his house and is asking me to help him identifying a mirror that has stayed in the family for many generations(100 years at least). Sadly since the passing of our last living grandparent we have kinda lost the trail and story of the mirror. Did my own research and scoured the internet searching for similar items but sadly fell short on finding similar items/results. All I know is that -my grandmother inherited the mirror from her aunt in 1980 after her passing -from what little my mom remembers the aunt got the mirror in Venetia(?) as a wedding gift in her 20s. She was born in 1909 Austria, so probably pre WWII? not sure if the info is accurate on the acquisition date, its been many years and not even my grandmother used to know for certain The mirror is 2.40m tall and 120 cm wide.
it's a stunning frame.... and huge... is your brother looking to sell it to the folks who bought his home?
Looks to be a neo-Renaissance pier mirror finished in gilt, ca.1890-1910. Would agree that it’s European and could easily be Austrian or Italian. It may or may not be missing a separate base. Beautiful in any case!
Perhaps by "Venetia", someone in the family was referring to this region by its old name. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Lombardy–Venetia Debora
