I spotted this watercolour painting for sale locally. Apologies for the poor photo. It depicts a Mediterranean scene and is well painted and signed lower left.

I feel that the artist is good enough to be recorded but none of the variations of the signature that I’ve tried bring any results.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance. IMG_2292.png IMG_2289.jpeg

I read the artist's name as "Marie Isabelle." Is that what you're seeing?

To my eye, appears to be a classical setting overlaid with a contemporary scene. May well be a copy of another work.

Sadly not until middle of next week. It’s fairly sketchy in style but has a lot of character and strong colours and looks right for the period. May just be a talented young amateur.

Yes, more than likely a talented amateur as most women artists would have been considered in that period.

I’m wondering if it might be Marie Trubelle. It’s a fairly rare French surname but there is one (no reference to art) born 1772 died 1844 on a genealogy site. She lived in Lot Et Garonne in the village of Gavaudun.

I read Joubelle, but it could be Trubelle.
    Sweet watercolour.

Her father was a sieur so right social class. Really do think the work a copy of another. So carefully composed; doesn't look observed. (And, of course, the buildings behind appear to be fantasies based on classical architecture.)

Pretty sure I’ve found the location. Monastery in Amalfi.

Oh, clever you! I searched the Greek monasteries but couldn't find a match. And, of course, Amalfi makes perfect sense.
