    Good evening everyone!

I'm hoping someone can identify the marks on this plate I found today at the thrift store. I have a maker in mind, but I don't want to influence anyone, and I'm also not 100% sure so a confirmation from someone else would be helpful. For being a small plate, it's got some good weight (174 grams) which also leads be to believe that maybe it's coin silver vice sterling.

Not a clue, but if I were guessing I'd ask if it was retailed at Gump's.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I give up -- What do you think it might be, @MrNate ?

The more I stare at it, the more I'm uncertain....I was originally thinking Vanderslice & Co. because of this similar pattern of this cup:

But looking at that Shulz & Fisher mark by @KikoBlueEyes I can't help but notice the top part of the S in Sterling is missing in the same exact manner as my piece.

There were other makers with the S. F. CAL. mark, but as you said the sterling mark was more like. That's why I posted this one. :):)

Vanderslice looks wrong to me; the mark on Mr Nate's piece has some sort of crown at the top, although the rest of the mark is AWOL. The mark on the cann/cup is straight across the top.

And... isn't there a K hiding under the "sterling"? Might have been part of the original mark. The SFCal. might be a retailer's mark that got stamped over the top?

I thought about Shreve, Crump/Lowe also. I haven't really found anything that lines up with the very hard to see mark above the text.
