Help with sword markings?

    maybe a WW1 German cavalry sword.....but better pics of the handle are needed to install confidence in that attribution...

    or a later reissue...?

    That grip style was around for a long, long time, so it'd be hard to date just from that. I think the numbers on the hilt are regimental markings. With those, it might be possible to figure out where and when it was issued.

    I never insinuated that the grip is the only thing needed to date the weapon....

    And I didn't infer that. I just meant that it was a very common style for a long time and that might make it difficult to date. My bad.
