Featured help with pottery vase, iznik ?

    hi guys

    does anyone know where this pottery vase my have come from, thought it looked interesting for a pound

    the closest thing i can think is iznik, but i might be way off

    5 inches across,

    2848 on base

    stinks of oil paint

    any thoughts appreciated

    It is cute, but doesn't have the elegance of Iznik. I have seen this ware before, if I could only find my thinking cap. That shape is like a Dervish begging bowl.

    thanks aj, interesting idea, it does seem to fit very well in both hands,

    i did wonder why someone threw 20p at me when i was looking at it at the bus stop :)

    Well, now you know.:D You could make a fortune with one of those.
    Those begging bowls are called kashkul in Farsi (Persian). They are oval so they don't stick out too much to the side when carried in a shoulder bag.

    Looks Like some letters/writing around the top part. Also, it reminds me of some metal work pieces like Indian enamelled brass work, but I dunno...
