    Hello,

I purchased this as saphiret glass but now that I have it in hand I’m on the fence. Wondering if it is just blue cab glass and the color shift is the reflection of the setting.

Ang help is very much appreciated.
Hope everyone has a wonderful s
    weekend

I don't see the mocha coloring I would expect for saphiret, looks like blue glass to me.

    And to me.
I’ve seen a few pieces for sale stretching the description of Saphiret. It doesn’t look right to me but I’ve only seen it in my hand a couple of times.

Can you return it if you think it’s not Saphiret?

It's definitely not an antique Saphiret, but going to be an outlier here thinking it maybe the cabs could be a vintage Saphiret, sometimes called Sapphirine.

Your photo where the cabs look a bit mocha brown, it does look like it could be Sapphirine. It's hard to tell from a still photo. Does the brown shown sort of move as you change the light?

The other photo where it looks so solid blue, seems to be taken with a super bright flash, maybe?

The vintage ones made in the 50's/60s really have different looks. Some are milky brown with hints of blue, others more like a mirror blue as primary, and just brown when you turn them. These remind me of the more blue ones.

I wish I could hold the piece, I could tell you in a heartbeat.

Agree with @Lucille.b this looks like mid century saphirine. It often gets called sapphiret mistakenly, there isn't much of it around for people to handle so if you haven't handled them it's not so easy.

It's either blue glass with funky lighting or sappharine trying to fool me. Sapphiret that isn't. It's a pretty necklace either way.

If they are vintage Saphirets (Sappharine--not sure of the spelling) they would still have very good value. Maybe a few hundred for a piece like this.

Half of the Saphirets listed on Ebay are vintage. Vintage Saphirets are also actively collected. The antique ones sell for more, but believe me, the vintage ones bring nice $ too.

I know technically there is some official word like Sappharine (sp?) and it is a way to differentiate, but no seller uses that, and buyers search with "Saphiret" when looking for vintage and antique. Not saying good or bad, just how it's done if you check Ebay, Etsy, etc. The term Saphiret used for both vintage and antique, pretty much always.

So I think your main question is whether this necklace is a vintage Saphiret or not.

Hope it works out best for you.

I also vote no to saphiret or sappharine. In low light, sappharine comes off as more brown than blue.

    Hello all,

I emailed the expert on the page above and she initially confirmed early saphiret glass. She asked for a few more photos but she’s positive of what I have

thank you all for the help
