    While waiting in line for a local thrift store to open another regular asked me if I was interested in a weird piece of driftwood he'd found at a yard sale - as soon as I saw it I I said "Yes!"
    The kicker is he sold it to me for $20; he said it was too big for his apt.! (I think it was actually too hard for him to hang - the right arm/horn that looks like a fork tongue actually curves inward so a reg screw or hook in the wall can't reach the back of the piece. Any ideas how to get or make a long screw that sticks out of wall more than normal?)
    The thing is 60 inches wide & has a bunch of glass eyes & is made to look like it has 2 heads. It's actually 2 pieces that have been screwed together with hinges.
    As cool as this is I was surprised I couldn't find a signature anywhere.
    I am planning on putting it on eBay; I will ship in 2 pieces after unscrewing the hinges.
    But what do I call this thing?!
    Any names - formal or nick name - would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Folk art angel? There are some in Ezekiel that more less fit this description - wings and eyes all over the place.

    Well, that's definitely a conversation piece.
    Maybe "hotel lobby art"?

    Reminds me of this famous picture of a weasel riding a woodpecker:

    On a different note though, my father, who was an artist, spent many hours hand polishing pieces of driftwood that he found that reminded him of animals / other things. I have boxes full of his pieces. They are reminiscent of this except mostly smaller, and he did not add any eyes or anything else to them, just the polished wood.

    lloyd249 it's not hoarding if it's valuable

    IMO it appears to me to be a driftwood peacock .

    With wandering eyes. My instant impression from first pic was pterodactyl giving birth to another by C-section. The eyes are of various types, not just different colors but some with round pupils, some with slit pupils. And all look to me like they have been placed over eyes in the wood? A large part of art is knowing when to stop.

    Does anyone remember Hitchcock's 'Spellbound', the dream sequence eyes by Dali?

    The term outsider art was coined by art critic Roger Cardinal in 1972 as an English synonym for art brut (French: [aʁ bʁyt], "raw art" or "rough art"), a label created by French artist Jean Dubuffet to describe art created outside the boundaries of official culture;

    no...it's a real thing.....and in this case......fits.

    It's definitely interesting. I'm not sure I'd want it giving me the once-over from the living room wall, but it's interesting.
