I like it! It would look good in my office sitting area. My first thought was West Germany, then I thought Royal Haeger 1960s-1970s when they hired a few ceramic designers to change things up a bit. This maybe something from the RH's Italian designer... I don't have the Haeger book or any German books to confirm.

Like trip, my first reaction was German.
I don't know anything about Haeger.

I also think German but can't identify maker. FWIW, I like this more than I should ;)

It is a nice looking piece - with that volcanic glaze and the large numbering, agree with the others on German. Can be difficult to ID when the labels are gone, but might be able to narrow down the maker by those who used of red clay - Ruscha was the first company that came to mind, but they didn't use red clay much, Carstens is usually where I look first with the red clay, but not really feeling it on this one...

Maybe you've already checked them, but these sites can be useful:

It is just not what I am usually drawn to or collect. I usually buy this sort of thing for resell but might have to keep this one if it were to come my way.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I will try to research a bit more and see if I can find the maker.
