Have you been looking at sold prices or asking prices?

This material is not true alabaster (& not onyx either), actually a form of marble. Decorative items made from it were very big in the early 70s, but presumably are still being made.

Seems to me the maker's mark could be read TLB.

Asking price, sold too but varies a lot between sellers, not sure why. Just on Amazon, Ebay kind of thing or image searches. Closest thing I found and a couple of great Alabaster pages to read up on a bit.. Tried TB, saw some before and TLD just one.

    & sold prices.......depends who's bidding...who's looking..and when !

I watched a fake native rattle sell for nearly $3000 USD....

    on a good auction venue...

all around , others were selling for $ 150 to 400.....

Komo pretty much summed it up.Unless You've got a genuine piece of the Sutton Hoo Trove or one of the Elgin Marbles (neither of which you could legally own)-prices will bounce around like a game of pong on steroids.
