Help with Dr. ? :)

Hope you all are doing well!

I was wondering if I could get some possible help ID'ing this fellow.

Two names written on back.

Dr. Cady (Possibly J. Cleveland Cady) ?
& C. N. Shepard (or at least that's what I think it says.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That's how I make my cursive, upper case, "d"s.

Scantic, I also think you have the names right.

 

That's how I write mine too but they vary depending upon the use of it.

 

The second name might be C. N. Shepherd (spelled slightly differently). The first letter in the last name doesn't even look like an "S" but I can't think of any other possibility.

 

Famous photographer, apparently. Here's a web site dedicated to and fellow looking for info. Perhaps he can identify. (I suspect Columbia University.)

Here's a Cady who had a D.D. from Columbia and was an eminent New Yorker during the right period.

There was a C.N. Shepard at Trinity College from which Cady also graduated although some years before. Perhaps some connection.

Wow thank you so much!! I can't believe you found another photo of him!! Thank you! I never thought he was seminary related by the outfit, so it was a bit confusing at first! I really appreciate the help!

Me, obsessive?

Charles Norton Shepard was a D.D. who also taught at the General Theological Seminary in New York. Their dates quite different though. One (Cady) born in 1826 and the other (Shepard) born in 1870. Could have been teacher/student or even colleagues.
