Help with Delft Tile

    Hello, Folks-
    Help, please, with this Delft (we think) tile. What is the subject? Is the man taking off or putting on a bird costume? Any thoughts about the subject matter, age or any other aspect will be appreciated. I hesitate to remove the neat backing but understand that it might have to happen. Thanks.     I like tiles, an' I like that one too!
    But I can't imagine anything beneath the backing that would add sufficient information, or value, to balance the damage to that original cover.

    The style of frame might give a clue to approximate age.
