New to the forum so first off, thank you for your time. My wife and I bought this chest at an estate sale yesterday, and I am trying to figure out age and where it possibly came from. Regardless, we absolutely love it, but very curious. Its extremely heavy, solid wood, and shape is unusual. Its 28 inches tall. 40 inches wide and 27 inches deep. Has 2 large locking drawers. Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Beautiful piece that seems to be well executed. Seems to have some age but hard to tell how much. That lock looks a bit third-world so maybe a colonial piece? A bit like a map case but drawers are usually more shallow. Can't provide you with anything certain..... Just conjecture since I have not seen any quite like it.

    Welcome Craig.
It is beautiful. Just wondering, since Brad mentioned colonial, which part of the world do you (and the chest) live?

Thank you again for your follow up. Which colonial period would you place it in. I am new to antiques, and was researching colonial periods, and am a tad confused now.
    Thanks again.

Austin, Texas. The estate sale we picked it up at was unable to give me any information on it either.
