This is one of a couple of paintings I accepted back in trade from a lady who bought 20+ for $2,000 at my yard sale a few months ago.
I think I posted it here before asking for help with the artist's name, but when I searched Jewish painting, rabbi painting nothing came up.
So if I posted this before I apologize, but can anyone tell me who the artist is?
And is this a well done painting like I think it is? (Is it worth taking it to a shop to have the canvas re stretched onto the frame?)
Thank you in advance for any help,
    Happy Father's Day!

I thought it started with Viuaf (or T)?

Seems an unlikely string, but who knows? Could be very foreign. I just type what I see. Your mileage may vary. ;)

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Vanderbilt seems to be what it says....

I used to see similar paintings here all the time. Lots of local Jews had paintings like this in their homes; some may have been of real rabbis. The older crowd is dying off and these paintings used to turn up in synagogue rummage sales annually. They're kind of cool though.

I can see why she would want to give it back.

Where was this piece bought and sold? If not city, state? It may help. Thanks.

They are still being made in the same style, though the frame looks more vintage to me.

Thanks a bunch Mark-I just spit diet ginger ale all over my screen LOL. I agree and no I don’t think it’s well done but I do believe there’s a lid for every pot and may you find yours journeyman.

A friend in the furniture biz has a similar expression: “there’s an ass for every chair”

People collect and hang paint by number paintings. Somewhere out there I bet someone has a wall of old rabbis!

Can’t say I’d want this one either but it is beautifully and masterfully painted.
