Hm. Looks like the same kind of spring clip (on the back) that you see on brand new ones now (although the same as has been used for a number of years, not sure exactly how long.) Hard to say whether the public part is really old or the kind of thing produced 30 years ago when "old style", but brand new jewelry was in vogue. Don't suppose there are any clues, are there?

    hi bakers

yeah, its a hard one to judge

the main part is not magnetic, but the clip part is

its really heavy, you would have to have alot of hair i guess !!

I used to have "a lot of hair" when I let it grow long. Still have a few clips (plastic faux tortise shell) from a few years ago when I had my last fling with long hair. I would have worn yours happily!

This one's straight out of the late 80s, early 90s. I still have some of them; my hair hasn't been cut since the 80s, since short hair made me crazy. Crazier.

I agree, it is hard to tell. But evelyb is right, there was a fashion for these in the late 80s early 90s.

Short hair makes me crazy too. It never goes the way I want it to, and doesn't suit me anyway. So it is either, shave it all off, or wear it at least shoulderlength. I prefer the second option. And I usually wear it up with one of those claspy things hairdressers use, what do you call those?

i kind of like the very short bob look with a devil fringe that some ladies are sporting nowadays

    and curls, curls, curls,

    loose ones that is !!

It is nice, but it only suits some. It would look ridiculous on me.:(

The lower part of my hair goes curly when it gets longer, which is kind of nice. When it is shorter, it is dead straight, which doesn't suit my face.

I looked OK in short hair, but .... yuck. I couldn't get my hair out of my hair as it were.

I find they are easier than rubber bands, clips, slides, etc. When I wear Indonesian dress, I wear those clasps with flowers attached, this kind of thing:

I call them hair clamps. Much of the time I wind my hair up & use a huge, sort of round one to hold it off my neck & out of my face.

The Beatles' being reported as saying they liked girls to have long straight hair made my previously unfashionable 'string straight hair' an asset instead of a liability, released me from rollers & hair dryers. Eventually had hair down to my backside.

Now that I am, ahem, of a certain age, my hair has developed a rippling wave. Everywhere except the section next to the right side of my face. Bother. Clamping it up solves it all. When I really want to control it, I use a barrette with the same kind of mechanism as Charlie's (am I correct this is a character in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest?), making a low ponytail with the barrette upside down, then pull it up & clamp it. Barrette then faces out the right way.

I envy the Greek goddesses, with their masses of curls that seem to look good no matter what you do with them.

We call them 'haarklemmen' which is literally hair clamps, so hair clamps it is.:) The big ones are called 'kappersklemmen', hairdressers clamps, which is what I wear.
